Sudbury Inn’s Family Staff Party at the Telemark Inn Wilderness Lodge

Posted By admin on October 21, 2010

The Sudbury Inn held it’s Family staff party this year at the historic Telemark Inn Wilderness Lodge  this Oct 12th  with   50 to 60 folks and children participating in the fun … Included in the festivities were a great barbecue featuring award winning Chilly – and other wonderful foods and drinks- What seemed to steal the show was the Llama feeding and llama rides- along with horseback and pony rides  for the kids-  lots of puppy play time, and horse Carriage Driving  experiences for the adults that were inclined - New England

SweetGrass llama enjoys some fresh organic Swiss Chard from the garden with LOVE

Dogsledding on wheels with a 12 dog team of friendly happy well trained creatures,  ( was a big hit for all – especially Mr. John)   all this happening  with Maine’s own Denny Breau playing background music for the festivities-  the bomb-fire up on the hill above the lodge made a beautiful site  along with the white birch trees in peak foliage.   Hope to see the Suds back up on the mountain again next year!   Thanks everyone.

“The Dude” has arrived for the Fall

Posted By admin on September 25, 2010

The Little Dude a newly rescued Siberian Husky has arrived here with his master Dogman Chris Coleman.   The Dude is a little self confident 11 week old Sibo with lots of personality.   He seems old for his little self-   a sense of wisdom radiates from him-     He already is a calm and thoughtful creature -   who sits- gives paws – both right and left-  and he really loves playing with the Telemark Inn’s  house cats.    He is also already best friends with one of our (New England Dogsledding’s) best lead dogs “DarkStar”  who is presently in heat and he has no idea why he finds her sooo attractive.   Little dude needed a great home so Chris has adopted him and will add him to his other 17 Siberian Huskies that will be running trips along with the Alaskan Huskies of New England Dogsledding this coming season.   The Fall dry-land training has already

The Dude and his dogman Chris

begun with the dogs here pulling our ATV’s down the dirt roads and trails around the wilderness lodge.   It is great to be running the dogs again after a long and warm summer up here in the mountains.   The Dude Is really growing up fast so come on up and visit him and all his friends here soon.

Llama Trekking and Horseback Riding in New England

Jay Meets Jack llama

Ruthie and Jay sharing some laughter with Jack and Sweet Grass

Jay and Ruthy from NYC had a great time today getting a very intimate introduction to the our friendly llama’s- Jay is one of NY’s finist- and it took a little courage for him to go nose to nose with his very first Llama.. Jack Llama was willing to take a pepperment from Jays lips- bringing great laughter from his… wife Ruthy.. Ruth went next sharing affection and mints with Jack the super llama- then it was off for a hike up into Grafton Notch state Park for some water slides and exceptional views. Only one day in their NYC escape and they have already forgotten about the heat and the crowds and for real life city folks they are well on their way to becoming “Country Bumpkins” themselves. Tommorrow it is time to become Horse people.     We are thinking that after a day with our horses and Leo’s instruction Jay will be ready to join the mounted police down there.

Llama Riding – Horseback riding- Family Eco-Vacation

Posted By admin on August 9, 2010

Jessica and Roger (from Bar Harbor) brought their children to the  lodge for a couple days of animal submersions and Llama trekking  – learning how to trust and hike “and ride” llamas- ( a favorate of Hannahs and Ella’s) along with horse back pony rides , horse grooming, and some gentle hiking. Puppy play was a must for the little… ones.. and the pup enjoyed having some little ones to play with also. Jessica long ago used to work as a guide of the Telemark Inn – it was great seeing her again all “growed” up with children of her own- and of course Hannah and Ella love animals just their mother does. Imagine that.

“Cat Man” becomes a “dog person” ( or at least a Puppy Person)

“TUVA” returns to Telemark Inn Wilderness Lodge  We got another returning client / guest / friend come back to replenish himself here over the past two days,  relaxing, lots of swimming, a couple short walks into the forest some great eating,  stood on his head (in a yoga pose) waving his feet in the air and almost startled a horse being tacked up for a carriage ride..  (good training for a horse not used to seeing a humans upside-down)   Greg  is one of the last of the true Bohemian’s from NYC of the early seventies and presently the  owner and operator of TUVA Bakery in Lincolnville Maine- a wholesale gourmet bread and pastry shop. Great stuff- organic- wholesome and tastes incredible- He taught us how to make a very special bread recipe and we taught him how much fun puppies can be (Greg is a cat person) or was a cat person- he now can call himself an “animal” person.. It is always a treat to see TUVA as we call him affectionately..  I am eating his cinniman bread as I write this blog- delicious .. TUVA Bakery in Lincolnville-Maine.   Visit  his booth  and try his baking at the Comman Ground Fair this coming September .

New England Dog Sledding Pups first Brook crossing ( that’s BIG!)

Posted By admin on July 25, 2010

The Seven week old Pups – Crossing this small brook for the first time ever– Is a very big deal for this little puppy  named “Chippy”  .. she and her siblings all made it across this brook somehow. Everything that they learn in these “early developement” trips here are very important later in life- If the pups get used to and comfortable with water now,  then later in life when they are crossing rivers while dog sledding here in the New England or in a long distance race in the Yukon Territories- the fact that they got comfortable with water young is very very important. One in a long list of things to acclimatize our pups to.   We spend a lot of time here at the Telemark Inn Wilderness Lodge “training” our animals to new and different experiences that they will be subjected to in the course of their mature lifes, whether it be the llamas or the horses or our sled dogs-   every new situation that they comfortably work though  and survive and then turn into a playful experience (such as this brook crossing)  will build trust into the animals toward our (us humans) decision making abilities- therefore our animals with be more prone to follow our “suggestions”  in the future.    comman sence..   once again in animal training.   simple stuff..   straight forward and linear in nature.

Learn to Horseback Ride – Bethel Maine

July 18th riding lessons in our new Adirondack Riding Ring

Jessica and younger sister Caitlin came over  for their bi-weekly horseback riding lessons and trail rides yesturday.   These two girls are really improving their riding skills and confidence as well-  something that working and being with large animals helps develop in  people of all ages.  Jessica rode “Red”  our Appendix Quarter Horse and Caitlin rode “Piper” our government line Morgan mare.      And of course after the riding it was all about the new pups.     It is great to see the evolution of young children into responsible and conscience kids-  tending and working with horses leaves no other alternative-   one cannot be irresponsible and unattentive and ride a horse at the same time-   horses help children of all ages develop into more understanding adults-  if they choose to listen to what the horse is saying to them…..   Listen to what the horse is whispering to you:     can you hear it???   These two kids are really starting to learn the language.  It starts slowly and then becomes a way of life..   Listening to species other than our own- and understanding what is being communicated.    Horses are a big start in this direction..  And It’s a great and fun learning process to be part of.    Summertime Horse Camp at the Telemark Inn Wilderness Lodge.

Horse and Husky Program – Horseback riding and husky play

Posted By admin on July 19, 2010

Horse Camp for kids got it’s start last week with a couple of great young girls from the Yarmouth area.    They spent the week learning about horse care and training with lots of riding and a couple outings of carriage driving as well.   These two girls put in a lot of effort with feeding and watering all the creatures here on the hillside  (Llamas- horses and the squadrons of sled dogs during their stay here,  but it seemed
Ellie and Allie were here for Summer Horse Camp but had lots of time to help socialize the pups!

the pups are the creatures they spent every free moment with .    And no wonder why!
